Holidays

Well all ~ this Holiday season has been bit of a bummer for me. This is the first year that I have had Christmas and New Year without my children. They are spending it with their dad in Chicago this year and it's been a rough few days (my sons birthday is December 31st on top of that). We typically do up the holidays pretty big ~ big dinner, putting up the tree and decorations, baking the cookies for Santa (my daughter is 9), Christmas breakfast....the whole shebang!!! My house has been so quiet, I have read 2 books in 2 days and about to start on my third, my to-do list that I thought would last me from Dec 18th - Jan 1st was done by Dec 20th, and I have 6 more days to go before my daughter comes home (my son lives with their dad in Chicago, but he has been coming down here for the past 2 years since I relocated). Being away from family during this time has really made me take a look at where I am at logistically and considering relocating (again). And on top of all that.... I found 3 gray hairs in my head!!!!!

Greetings Everyone!!!

Okay ~ so I am new to this blogging thing and it has taken me sometime to figure it out ~ or at least I think I have figured it out :-).

I thought it would be a neat idea to blog my efforts to healing healthy. I began this quest about 2 years ago to improve my overall health. Not just to lose weight but to have a better quality of life that includes the physical, mental, and spiritual. I began to focus more on me and healing myself completely. In order to do so, I had to take a self inventory and decide what was good and what was bad. In doing so, I left a job of 13 years, took on a new job which required me to relocate my family to Alabama (moving from the Chicago area), and letting go of toxic relationships. WHEW!!! Big change but so definitely needed.

So began my plan of action ~ when I say "plan of action", that's exactly what it was. I literally sat down and wrote down what it was I needed and wanted to accomplish; Better health, better wealth, less stress, developing a spiritual relationship with God, more and better quality time with kids' and the list goes on and on. The next step was putting all of this in action with attainable goals. One thing that I learned is that my past goals have all been to broad (i.e. I will lose 50 lbs) without real specific measures to achieve them. So this time I made a plan that was S.M.A.R.T. ~ Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Bound. Low and behold IT WORKS.

During all of this, I decided that I really have a passion for healing healthy. I enrolled in the Health and Wellness degree program at KU and have been able to incorporate everything I am learning into my own changes. My goal is that once I receive my degree to partner with community and government organizations to improve and/or implement Wellness Programs in schools, communities, churches ~ anywhere that healthier and improved lifestyle behaviors will give a better quality of life. It seems so simple that our own health is determined by the choices that we make first and should not be by prescriptions. I also want to be a Life Coach that helps individuals with overall lifestyle behaviors to battle chronic diseases such as diabetes and Childhood Obesity.

My own testimony is driving my passion. With this blog I hope to encourage, inspire, be inspired, and network with everyone about ideas, challenges, testimonies of success in all areas of lives.

Feel free to share your thoughts, ask questions.....anything you want to add to Healing Healthy!!!!

Happy Blogging ~
